High net-worth individuals and families look for comprehensive wealth management advice and strategies to maximize returns, protect their wealth, and minimize tax.
Financial advisors that operate within the traditional banks, however, are restricted from providing clients with all available options in the financial markets (such as private lending and private equity market opportunities), and often have limited legal, insurance, or tax knowledge.

Our emblem speaks to the history of the Union Building, to the people of Alberta, and to our clients.
The Union Building was constructed in 1911. At that time, the horse was prominent and important. Strong, reliable, hard-working, independent, and majestic. Horses worked in the coal mines along the North Saskatchewan river, pulled the wagons in the streets, and cleared the fields.
At the heart of our crest is a horseshoe. Shaped like the letter “U” for “Union”, the horseshoe signifies good luck, prosperity, and protection. Nestled at the base of the horseshoe is the Alberta Rose, and crowned above it is a regal insignia crafted from maple leaves, a tribute to Canada. The stars emanating from the horseshoe represent dreams, guidance, and excellence.
Our Latin motto, “Per Unitatem, Prosperita”, translates to “Through Unity, Prosperity” in recognition of how our businesses, and our people, work in unity to bring prosperity to our clients.
In October 2026, Union Financial will relocate to the Union Building at 10053 Jasper Avenue, Edmonton.
The Union Bank of Canada was founded in 1866, and quickly became known as Canada’s “pioneer bank”. In 1911, it constructed the Union Building in Edmonton.
In the years before World War One, Edmonton experienced an economic boom. During this time, the Bank of Commerce, the Bank of British North America, the Royal Bank, and the Union Bank of Canada built impressive new bank buildings.
As the only remaining bank building constructed before World War I, the Union Building represents enduring strength, resilience, and longevity regardless of prevailing economic or social times. Purchased in 1928 by James Richardson and Sons Ltd., the Union Building served as a base for their grain trading and stock broking business for 50 years, with the main floor acting as a trading floor.
The Union Building is an important and significant historical building in Edmonton. We are delighted to give it renewed life as a financial institution.
