David Hawreluk, LLB, KC

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER AND GENERAL COUNSEL

David Hawreluk obtained his law degree from Queen’s University in 1993. Since that time, David has practiced as a partner at both national and global law firms, including serving in roles as office managing partner, managing partner for clients and industry in Northern Alberta, and on national Executive Committees. He is currently a partner at DLA Piper Canada LLP where he practices as part of the Litigation, Arbitration and Investigations group. As a commitment to his work as a mediator, he completed training in Mediation and Conflict Management at Harvard Law School. In 2022, he received the appointment of King’s Counsel in recognition of his abilities as a lawyer and his contributions to the legal profession and the community.

In addition to his law practice, David is a passionate businessman and licensed life insurance agent. He has owned and managed residential and commercial investment properties in Alberta and Quebec, owned and leased over 6,000 acres of farmland in Alberta and Saskatchewan, developed industrial lands, designed self-storage facilities and created and operates Union Lending Corporation, Union Wealth Management Corporation, and Union Insurance Brokerage Corporation. In 2023, David purchased the Union Bank property in downtown Edmonton, which will be the future home for the Union Financial group of companies. David is also the Vice President of Real Estate for Pomeroy Lodging where he is responsible for leading negotiations with respect to hotel and land acquisitions, leasing, and related contractual matters.
